Donovan Sculpture Garden: Set to be dedicated

The Donovan Sculpture Garden Volunteer Team, in cooperation with the Peoria Park District, Build Peoria, and the Urbana Park District, announces the Dedication of Donovan Sculpture Garden on Saturday, October 2 at 10:30 a.m.
“THERE ARE DAYS OF COMMUNITY BUILDING IN CENTRAL ILLINOIS,
TODAY IS ONE”
The Dedication will feature the unveiling of local Artist Preston Jackson’s new Work, ‘Angel’, thus completing the first six Art Works at Donovan Sculpture Garden.

9:00 am:
Local ‘sidewalk chalk art’ will begin around Cyd’s Restaurant at Donovan. Groups include high school art students, Bradley Fraternity/Sorority Members, Artists from 22VA and more.
As guests arrive, this area will be a ‘sign-in’ area – guests asked to add their name, organization, ‘art’, as they wish.
10:00 am:
Guests will begin arriving at Donovan via the entrance off Knoxville, and will be greeted (saluted, actually) along the length of the roadway, by a detail of Midwest Central Young Marines –
“The Young Marines strengthens the lives of America’s youth by teaching the importance of self-confidence, academic achievement, honoring our veterans, good citizenship, community service, and living a healthy, drug-free lifestyle. Age 8 through high school.”

10:30 am:
A Brass Ensemble from the Heartland Festival Orchestra, David Commanday conducting, will begin performing at the site of the Preston Jackson Work, about 40 yards north of Cyds. Volunteers will direct guests to the site.
This area will also include a photographic display of the other 5 Sculptures exhibited at Donovan. The Artists will be available in this area.
11:00 am:
Master of Ceremonies Lee Wenger will welcome, and begin the brief ceremony, concluding with Preston Jackson presenting his ‘Artist’s Statement’ about the Work, “Angel”. Emily Cahill, Executive Director, Peoria Park District, and Robert Johnson, PPD Board President, will share thoughts for the occasion.
A Special ‘Poetic Tribute’ is planned during this Ceremony.
Lindsay Couquit, Art Teacher at Peoria Heights High School has had her students craft an ‘Art Wrap’ for ‘Angel’ and they, everyone, will be asked to participate in its unveiling.
‘Parks-On-Tap’ will be present, with all Service complimentary – serving water, Tanner’s Apple Cider, Trefgzer’s cookies … and Champagne – it IS a Celebration of Community Building In Central Illinois.
